I had an idea for a photo project, but I’m not sure exactly where it’s aimed. Something about incredibly bland CEO portraits caught my attention.
I gathered the corporate portraits of CEOs of the top 41 companies (according to the 2012 Fortune 500 list) These folks are the 1% of the 1%. Everything they show to the public is carefully calculated. They have the resources to stay completely out of the public eye if they want to, but most of them apparently think that it makes business sense to commission these portraits to show the public who they are.
The gallery format that I have on WordPress isn’t very good for letting you flip through the images and see all of the file names at once, but if it was better for that then you’d see that #30, INTL FCStone’s Sean O’Connor is missing. Almost every other CEO had dozens of pictures show up in Google Image Search, or had their pictures right on the website of their company. Not Sean! I had to dig a little deeper to find this one. For whatever reason he’s not plastering his face on the web.
So without further delay, here are the CEO portraits:
I grabbed extras when I thought there was something interesting. Here are a few observations-
- The majority of the men are wearing really conservative suits with ties
- Shaving is a really big deal. Other than one mustache, the only facial hair is on the CEO of AIG, who only grew it to cover the facial rash from chemotherapy.
- I could probably sort these into “yearbook picture”, “standing in front of something”, and “magazine picture” with more interesting light and posing.
I might revisit this later, but for now this is a placeholder.
